It is absolutely not true that our forefathers went to bed with the sun every night.  Sometimes they stayed up and fiddled around, or watched TV, or did the game-boy thing.  And, of course, they needed light to do these things. Well sir, there were no 'lectric lights available out in the bush so they had to make candles to see by.
